1: Cool Your Body
Even if the air around you is hot, you can always cool yourself down. Think cool drinks peppered with ice cubes, a cold cloth applied to your forehead of the back of your neck, a bowl of cool water to dip your feet in, and dressing appropriately for the season.
2: Close The Curtains
On a lovely sunny day, it is nice to have the sun streaming into the house. But, that means the heat is streaming in too. If you strategically leave some curtains closed, you block the heat from entering the house. You don’t need it to look like a cave, but just choose to block the windows that let in the most direct sunlight.
3: Ice Fan
Fans can help to cool the air, but can take some time to be effective. Supercharge your fan’s efforts by putting a tray of ice or a bowl of icy water in front of them.
4: Choose Cotton
Cotton is a lovely, breathable fabric. If you choose cotton sheets over other synthetic materials, you will feel cooler in bed at night. It is also moisture-wicking, so pulls sweat away from your body.
5: Ditch The Oven
Sometimes there is nothing nicer than a roast meal, but the oven can make the temperature in your house rise significantly. Skip the oven and maybe use the BBQ instead. Or, you could even elect to use a slow cooker which generates very little heat.
6: Turn Off The Tech
Devices are awfully convenient, but they do generate a lot of heat when used. Make sure everything is switched off when you head to bed, and try to minimise the use of devices during the day. Lightbulbs are also culprits for generating heat, so enjoy the extended summer evenings without turning them on.
7: Use Your Heat Pump
It may sound counterintuitive to use your HEAT pump when you want to eliminate the hot air in your house! But, heat pumps also have a cooling function. By simply altering the mode on your heat pump, you can use it as an air conditioner, blowing refreshing cool air through your home.
Here at JSR, we specialise in a range of heat pump systems. If you would like to get one installed or have your current system serviced, then drop us a line today.
