Heating Solutions For This Winter
As Kiwis, we are fond of the “She’ll be right!” approach. When it gets cold, we throw on a jumper and another pair of socks.
But, when the temperature drops into single digits (or below), a jumper and warm socks don’t quite cut it. You need an efficient source of heating as well.
While a cheap heater from your local department store will warm the air around itself, it isn’t going to provide the sustained, energy-efficient heating you need.
For that, you will require something like a heat pump. They are the most sustainable way to heat your home, only operating to bring the room up to the temperature you want and keeping it there. At all other times, it doesn’t draw on your energy resources.
If you then couple your heat pump with a ducting system, you can heat all the corners of your home with one device. That means you can throw away those fan or oil fin heaters in your bedrooms. You won’t need that drain on the power bill anymore!
Ducting systems efficiently transfer heat throughout your home (or cool air in the summertime). And the great news is that we currently have specials running on both our heat pumps and ducting systems. You can check them out by clicking here.
Good Heating Tips
Pushing the button on your brand new (or newly serviced) heat pump is a great start. But, there are a few best practice tips to keep in mind.
They are:
- Don’t set the temperature to maximum. It won’t heat the room quicker, it will just use more energy!
- Use the timer function so it comes on 15 mins before you need it, then you don’t have to turn it on before you even leave the house. You can even select a model that is compatible with your Smart Home apps and control it from your devices.
- Turn it off when you don’t need it
- Heat the rooms that you are using. Close off spaces like the laundry and garage to prevent heat from escaping
- Close the curtains to keep the heat in
- Ensure your home is fully insulated to make your heating more efficient
Maintaining Your Heat Sources
Like anything, your heat pump needs a bit of maintenance to operate at maximum efficiency. After all, you wouldn’t drive your car around without taking it for a regular service or WOF.
So, why would you try and operate your heat pump without maintenance?
Over time, heat pumps can collect pollutants from the air. These can be redistributed into your home unless you take the time to clean your filters and coils. These collected particles can also make it difficult for your heat pump to run at normal capacity, costing you more in energy bills.
However, a regular service can help your heat pump run in optimum form all year round. While you can do some of the maintenance yourself, cleaning the filters is only half of the job. It is best to call in a professional to fully service the system on an annual basis. This can bring any faults to your attention, preventing the need for costly repairs in the long term.
Making Your Money Work For You
It is true that a heat pump is an investment. However, you can make your money work for you as we have great finance options available at JSR.
As well as all the standard payment methods, we also offer finance options via GEM Visa. Spread the payments out over time and get great interest deals. That means you can get the heating solutions you need without any of the payment stresses.
If you would like to make use of our finance options (or any of our other services) then simply mention it to our team when you are discussing your heating system.
