Use these 6 Tips To Prepare

Your Air Conditioner During Spring

 Spring is already here!

We’ve finally left the cold winter months behind, and summer is approaching quickly. As we prepare for another hottest New Zealand summer, it is important to know few tips on how to get your A/C ready for summer.  You don’t want your first summer day of the year to be really hot if your A/C isn’t performing at the expected level.

Here are 6 tips to keep in mind to ready your A/C when hot, humid weather arrives.

1. Check your outdoor air conditioner before turning it on

If you cover your A/C during winter, make sure you remove the cover before using it.

When you’re not using your A/C, it’s great that you are covering your A/C to prevent sticky substances, leaves, and rubbish. It’s especially great for dirt or tree branch not hanging themselves around the shroud fan, which could burn up the fan motor. If you fail to remove the cover before turning on your A/C, you could end up damaging mechanical parts, which can then lead to costly repairs.

2. Make sure your fuses or circuit breaker is switched “ON” at your home electric panel

Many families prefer to turn off the power of the outside unit so the A/C doesn’t accidentally operate during winter. This is quite an easy thing to forget months later when you are ready to use your A/C.

3. Inspect your air filter in your air conditioner

If dirt builds up on your air filters, it will reduce the efficiency of your air conditioner as it’ll struggle to circulate the cool air into your space. Failing to clean air filters will drive up your electricity bills through the season and add pressure to your A/C systems.

4. Wash off the loose debris from your air conditioner

A similar process of dirty air filter applies to your A/C. If outdoor ac coils are dirty, air cannot flow through the system and will reduce efficiency.

You can use a low-pressure hose to clean outdoor ac coils. Apply a little pressure with your finger over the nozzle to clean loose debris and keep A/C performing at its best.

5. Switch off the humidifier if you haven’t

Some Humidifiers are not created to stop working during the cooling season. If your humidifier doesn’t stop, turn the humidity control to its lowest level. If your humidifier has a damper, close that too. This will give you a certainty that cold air isn’t being wasted.
